Nació en rojas el 24 de junio de 1911 y murió en santos lugares el 30 de abril del 2011, hijo de Francesco Sábato y Giovanna María Ferrari, inmigrantesitalianos provenientes de Calabria
Fue un escritor, ensayista, físico y pintor argentino. Su obra narrativa consiste en tres novelas: El túnel, Abaddón elexterminador y Sobre héroes y tumbas, considerada una de las mejores novelas argentinas del siglo XX. Además, ha escrito ensayos sobre la condiciónhumana: Uno y el Universo, Hombres y engranajes, El escritor y sus fantasmas, Apologías y rechazos
En 1945 publicó su primer libro, uno y el universo, una seriede artículos filosóficos,
En 2004, recibió un homenaje por parte del III Congreso Internacional de la Lengua Española.
El 30 de abril del 2011 faltandopoco para sus 100 años murió por causa de una neumonía derivada de una bronquitis
