-Passive smoking is the inhalation of smoke, called second-hand smoke (SHS) or environmental tobacco smoke (ETS), from tobacco products used by others. It happens when tobacco smoke permeates anyenvironment, causing its inhalation by people within that environment.
-INMEDIAT EFFECTS: Passive Smoking has immediate effects on people, like sickness, headache or cough.
-LONG-TERM EFFECTS: It alsohas effects that affect people during their life: lung cancer: the main cause of this disease is the exposition to the second-hand-smoke. Scientific evidence shows that the people who are exposed tothis smoke have much more possibilities to contract this disease. Cardiovascular problems: the secondhand smoke produces heart problems, immediately and during the people’s life, affecting the blood’sfunction that is in charge of the transport of oxygen. Some chemical products content in the second-hand smoking can collapse the arteries, causing problems like hypertension and, finally, a heartattack. A medical study shows that the possibilities of having this attack are increased twice with the exposition to the second hand smoke. Other common problems are the asthma and breast cancer.-EFFECTS ON THE HUMAN FETUS: Passive smoking also has serious problems on the human foetus: babies who have mothers who smoke have less weight than others, and frequently born before the normal period.Their organs, specially the lungs, are smaller than the common size, and the possibility of sudden dead increases. They have more risk of suffering diseases during the rest of their life and have morepossibilities of being addictive with tobacco when they become adults.
