North American Free Trade Agreement
The North American Free Trade Agreement knows as NAFTA. This trade is between the United States, Mexico and Canada, came into effect on January 1, 1994. Theprincipal promised benefits were the increase of the competitiveness, the strengthening of the investments, the creation of more productive stable and better remunerated employments, the increase ofthe real income of the workers, that the industrial massive exports were stirring the economy into action, and they were giving course for the formation of a society with major levels of well-being.In this trade the majority of the tariffs were eliminated on products traded among the members of the trade and gradually phased out other tariffs. But let’s talk about the benefits and failuresof this trade.
One of the benefits at Mexico were for example that the Mexican exports went on from 51.886 million dollars in 1993 to 160.682 million dollars in 2002, from 1993 to 2002 foreigninvestment deposited to the country 152.833 millions of, dollars with an annual average of 16.981 million dollars. More than 49% of these capitals was directed to the manufacturing sector, 24.4% tothe financial services and 10.8% to the trade, while the Mexican agriculture was a receptacle of only 0.25% of the direct investment that came to the country, bringing this last percentages manydifficulties for the Mexican agricultures.
Another problem is that when the NAFTA was signed, it was programmed that about 2015 it supposed to be the full liberalization of the agriculture products.Mexico accelerated this process, in such a way that they came 2002 practically without any protection in none of their grains. Nevertheless, this information that like that is published is questionedby many Mexicans who form a part of the farming sector.
