NAFTA Summary
Aldo talked about NAFTA. NAFTA is a free trade agreement between USA, Mexico and Canada which is the one with the largest area of free trade with more than 21 million squaredkilometers and the Third largest block in population with more than 456 million people. NAFTA came into force since October first of 1994. Since Nafta merchandize trade between these countries has tripledtopping 1 trillion and it also expanded Mexico’s exports and Mexico started exporting a variety of things. Mexico has become with NAFTA one of world’s biggest exporter in the World. Not only Mexicoprogressed with NAFTA, also Canada where one from 5 jobs is linked to the free trade agreement.
With NAFTA products were grouped by letters meaning in what terms duties that affected them were going tobe minimized. Some products barriers or tariffs were eliminated instantly and other were eliminated in ten or fifteen parts. With NAFTA the participation or importance of exports in the GDP of eachcountry has raised. Mexico’s exports participation has gone from a 20% to almost the half of Mexico’s GDP and Canada even though it has been declining for the last years it has also raised from 20% to a40%. United states exports participation in the GDP is still growing.
If we compare the situation before and after the NAFTA signing we can see that in all three countries the GDP growing rate ishigher after the signing almost in a 50% of the growth rate in the cases of Canada and Mexico and in the case of USA it has raised by two points. In the Gross Capital Formation the comparison shows evena better figure. The percentage has grown in more than a 100%. At constant prices in all three countries the GDP has been growing since the signing and it hasn’t stopped.
