If Guy de Maupassant haven’t suffered of syphilis his writings would have not been affected by his mental condition.
Henri René Albert Guy de Maupassant, famous French writerwho is considered the Father of the short story, writing over three-hundred of them. About Guy de Maupassant place of birth, there is some controversy about; this is because according to the biographerGeorges Normandy he was born in Fécamp in the Bout-Monteux and according to the other hypothesis he was born in Miromesnil Castle, even though everything seems to point to the second one.
Since hisparents’ separation when he was just a boy, Guy’s mother passed to play an important role in his life and was the first person that introduced him into the literary field.
After Guy entered juniorhigh school he met Gustave Flaubert who had a great influence in his life, taking under his protection and acting as his godfather in the literature guided him to his first debut in some journals, and asonce he said: “I entered literary life as a meteor and I shall leave it like a thunderbolt.”
In 1880 Guy de Maupassant wrote his first great work titled: “Boule de Suif” which was extremelypraised by this one. This story was based on the Franco-Prussian war, as most of his writings. But he also based his stories in some other theme such as loves adventures or the mediocrity of the rulers. Guyalso had some other famous works like “La Maison Tellier” or the “Une Vie”, and his famous writing “The Necklace” all of this works are marked by Maupassant phrase: “The need of work is in me.”Guy de Maupassant is also well known for his scary stories, in which he included obsessive death appearance, supernatural themes and narrated with a very nervous but in a lively way.
Guy didn’t alwayswrite under his real name he also used other pseudonyms such as Joseph Prunier or Guy de Valmont.
At the end of his career Guy de Maupassant started having constant nervous attacks and symptoms...
