There’s No Place Like Home

I was in my home, as usual. I was standing in front of the window, appreciating the beautiful gardenthat my mom had made. It was covered with snow, and the snow was kind of blue this time; I could almost see the snowflakes falling from the sky, one by one. A group of people passed by, and I could seehow they were freezing while I was having a cup of hot chocolate. Even though they had purple lips and frozen hands, I felt envy. It had been seven months since the whole sickness ordeal occurred,and I hadn’t touched another floor besides the hospital floor and my home’s floor. It was hard. I always asked my mom if I could go out just for one second, and she always answered that the cold airwasn’t good for me and that I would have to wait until there was a sunny day. That was the problem, that there were no sunny days. I was getting tired of winter. I found it beautiful and quiet, but forme, winter meant that I couldn’t go out, so, with time, I related it with sadness and a difficult time.

One morning, I woke up with a different mood, I was happy and I had this feeling ofadventure inside of me that nobody could possibly shut down. I went down stairs and I had a big breakfast. I sat near the window, as usual, and I took out my notebook. After writing some things, I asked mymom if she could let me go out to pick up some rocks. She said no. I don’t know what I was thinking, we were in winter and she always said no during this season. A few hours passed and my mom said thatshe would take a nap, so I decided to go out and pick up my rocks. I dressed up properly and I went out. It was amazing, the snow under my feet, the cold air that I was breathing was purifying mylungs, and I felt free. I saw the rocks that I wanted, and I went for them, they were covered with melted snow and they were wet and cold. I took some of them, and it was time to return home now. But I...
