Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918 in Mvezo, a village of 300 inhabitants near Umtata in the Transkei. It belongs to the Madiba’s clan. He was one of the thirteen childrenthat had his father, Gadla Henry Mphakanyiswa. His mother was Nonqaphi Nosekeni Fanny the third wife of his father.
After finishing high school, he began studying at the University College of Fort Harefor his Bachelor of Arts. There he was elected to the Student Representative Council and was ejected with a partner for participating in a student strike. He moved to Johannesburg where he completedhis studies of baccalaureate at Unisa by correspondence in 1941. He then studied law at the University of Witwatersrand, graduating in 1943. He married three times and had six children.
After 38 yearsof marriage to Winnie Madikizela, he was separated because of political scandals in April 1992 and finally divorced on March 19, 1996. With Winnie had two daughters, Zenani, born in 1958, andZindziswa, born in 1960.
In his 80th birthday, he married Graça Machel, widow of Samora Machel, past president of Mozambique, who died in 1986 in a plane crash.
