A TRIP TO NEW YORK
Considered the Capital of the World, New York is the city that receives most tourists per year. Its architecture, its culture and the New Yorker lifestyle are its trademarks.
Thecity is located on the Eastern coast of the United States; it borders on the West with New Jersey, on the Northwest with Connecticut and on the Southeast with Long Island. In 1898 it only consisted ofManhattan; later the Boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island were added. It is watered by the Hudson River that flows into the Atlantic Ocean.
MANHATTAN ISLAND
CENTRAL PARK
This 3.4km2 public urban park is located in Manhattan. Its borders are 110th Street to the North, Central Park West, 59th Street to the South, and Fifth Avenue to the East. These streets mark off sectorsaround Central Park commonly known as Central Park South, and Central Park West. The rectangular-shaped park (4,000 m. by 800 m) was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and by Calvert Vaux in 1873. Thehuge rectangle boasts large gardens, among which we highlight an area called The Great Lawn. It is located in the heart of Central Park near the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the American Museum ofNatural History. The Zoo is on the southwestern corner of the park. One of the most visited buildings in the park is the Victorian-style Belvedere Castle, designed in 1865. It presently houses the NewYork meteorological observatory but tourists also appreciate it for the panoramic view of the park and surroundings that it offers.
THE FLAG
The New York flag is a vertical tricolor of blue, white andorange. The municipal seal shield is in the center of the flag on the white segment. It is all blue and includes the Bald Eagle, the symbol of the State of New York; an Indian, representing all of thenative indigenous tribes; a sailor with navigation tools, a reminder of the settlers; beavers, the symbol of the Dutch East India Company, the first to establish itself in New York; and the blades of...
