Carlos Slim: the millionaire man of the world
Carlos Slim Helú was born in a Lebanese family. His father was a Maronite Catholic Youssefnamed Slim, and emigrated from Lebanon at age 14, and changed its name to Julián Slim Haddad by adding the name of his mother, as was customary. Also son of Linda Helú, Carlos Slim Helu was entitled as acivil engineer at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where he taught algebra and linear programming. From a young age began to invest in buying businesses, which was successful, and in thesale of real estate in downtown Mexico City.
In the early eighties and in the midst of a crisis that paralyzed Mexico and historical capital flight, Slim and his band performing heavy investment inthe country, and acquired several companies.
Carlos Slim has said repeatedly that this stage of the country reminded him what happened his father Julian Slim, in 1914 and in full MexicanRevolution bought his brother the remaining 50 percent of the business they had in common, called "The Eastern Star, "and in Mexico and believing in his destiny.
