Esta película comienza cuando un maestro de una aldea rural que está en las montañas tiene q dejar la aldea para conseguir dinero ya que esta comunidad es bastante pobre, por lo tanto, decide contratar una suplente, una niña de 13 años llamada Wei Minzhi que había acabado recientemente de graduarse en la primaria de su pueblo.
El maestro no esperaba q elalcalde hubiera contratado a una niña para su suplencia pero aun así las necesidades hicieron que el maestro accediera. Wei no sabía qué hacer, era una niña aun así que el profesor decidió decirle lo que el normalmente hacia y, por lo consiguiente, Wei seguía las ordenes del profesor.
