Early childhood
In her earliest years, Angelina began absorbing the acting craft from her parents - her father is theOscar-winning actor Jon Voight and her mother is Marcheline Bertrand, who had studied with Lee Strasberg. At age 11, Angelina began studying at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. She undertook some filmstudies at New York University and later joined the renowned Met Theatre Group in Los Angeles. At age 16, she took up a career in modeling and appeared in some music videos. Her exotic good looks mayderive from her mixed ancestry which is Slovak, French-Canadian, Iroquois and English.
Career and Family
Jolie made her screen debut as a child alongside her father Jon Voight in Lookin' to GetOut (1982). In the 1990s, Angelina Jolie became a popular actress. Her film career began in earnest a decade later with the low-budget production Cyborg 2 (1993). Her first leading role in a majorfilm was in the cyber-thriller Hackers(1995). She starred in the critically acclaimed biographical television films George Wallace (1997) and Gia (1998), and won an Academy Award for Best SupportingActress for her performance in the drama Girl, Interrupted (1999).
Jolie achieved wide fame after her portrayal of video game heroine Lara Croft in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001), and establishedherself among the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood with the sequel The Cradle of Life (2003). She has continued to take on a variety of interesting roles, such as an adventurer in the Lara Croft films,a FBI profiler in Taking Lives (2004).
