i was born in L.A., but my family is from china, my father came to the U.S. to study. He got a Ph.D. in computer science and he stayed on as professor at college inCalifornia
Is your mother from china, too?
No. my mom is from here. She’s Asian American. Her folks came to the U.S. during the nineteenth century. In fact, one of her great-grandfather actually helper tobuild the first railroad across the united states in the 1860s. What about you?
Well, I'm a third-generation Mexican American, my grandparents were born in Veracruz, and they immigrated to this countrya long time ago. We still have a lot of relatives in Mexico.
Do you keep in touch with the?
We visit whenever we can.
We, I' m afraid we’ve lost touch with my father's family. By the way, how'syou Spanish?
It’s pretty good. We speak it home most of the time. Do you speak Chinese?
Yeah, I’m quite fluent, but I can't write it.

Yo nací en Los Ángeles, pero mi familiaes de porcelana, mi padre vino a los EE.UU. para estudiar. Obtuvo un doctorado en ciencias de la computación y se quedó como profesor en la universidad en California
¿Es tu madre de China, también?No. Mi madre es de aquí. Ella es de origen asiático. Sus gente llegó a los EE.UU. durante el siglo XIX. De hecho, uno de su bisabuelo en realidad ayuda a construir el primer ferrocarril en los EstadosUnidos en la década de 1860. ¿Y usted?
Bueno, yo soy la tercera generación mexicano-americano, mis abuelos nacieron en Veracruz, y que emigró a este país hace mucho tiempo. Todavía tenemos una grancantidad de familiares en México.
