Gonzalez practiced artistic gymnastics,specializing in the fields of soil and jump on stand. In 2004, the athlete, trained in the Club Deportivo Universidad Católica, was elected as the best Chilean gymnast by the press after winning thebronze medal in the World Cup, held that year in La Serena.
In 2006, he participated in the Moscow World Cup, where he earned the bronze medal in jumping. At the Pan American Games of 2007, made in Riode Janeiro, Tomás González won two medals in gymnastics: Silver jump and bronze on floor. With these results, he became the first Chilean to win medals in this discipline.
That same year, González,with 15,800 points, won a gold medal on floor at the World Cup held in Glasgow and in 2008, in the World Cup in Barcelona, won a silver in jump with 15,900 points.
