Log Assignment on Dante
Dante portrays courtly love as the love I see it. He invests so much into Beatrice and herbeauty. He expresses how she is beautiful inside and out, loves everything about her. I call it a fool’s love when your so fascinated by a girl and everythingthat she does is beautiful. You can’t see the bad in her, you can only see the good. I sometimes feel this way about my girlfriend Monica, I just view her asperfect. I sometimes question myself, how can this one girl be so perfect for me. In the handout you gave us, Dante says “The sight of her makes all humble, anddoes not only make her appear pleasing, but all receive honour through her”. Dante is expressing how her presence alone makes others humbled not just by hearbeauty but, because of her divine power. He treats her as a princess, the way I try to treat Monica. She means the world to me and it’s not just her beauty, but theway she conducts herself and the way people perceive her. She is a smart and loyal woman. Other ways Dante expresses his courtly love is in situations when hesays “Nine times already since my birth had the light returned to the selfsame point almost, as concerns its own revolution, when first the glorious lady of mymind was made manifest to mine eyes, even she who was called Beatrice by many who knew not wherefore”. That is another example about how highly he thinks ofher. He doesn’t really know her but has seen her 9 times up to that point, and is head over heels for her. He is love struck on the first time he had seen her.
