Humans are definitely driven by the desire to know and understand the origin of our surroundings, and it has always been like that it seems to be something in our genes. Such aswe do with space, we investigate different planets in search of answers in order to understand what surrounds us , with nature we try to understand nature to preserve it and even our own body weinvestigate seeking knowledge to provide solutions to our diseases. Is a need to know. In this documentary professor Gates takes a trip to Africa to understand and learn more about the culture,civilization and pharaohs who lived a century ago at the shores of the Nile River in the ancient Nubia in what is today Egypt.
The journey of Professor Gates' research begins with a visit to the Pyramids ofGiza in Cairo, Egypt. From there stand several scenarios including the visit to the temple of Abu Simbel which was made by the Egyptian pharaoh Ramses II who ruled in the original and ancient Nubia. Thistemple in 1964 was moved block by block to a close location but a little higher to prevent imminent flooding due to construction of the Aswan Dam.
The Aswan Dam was the largest and importantengineering project of modern Egypt at that moment, was designed to provide electricity and water to the whole country, but this magnificent work brought as consequence the flooding of more than 500 squaremiles of Nubian territory. This devastated and divided one of the oldest civilizations of Africa, leaving her homeless. From an archaeological point of view is quite sad as expressed by Professor Gatesall the information and history that was lost in that flood and was never discovered.
Part of the civilization that lived in Nubia has moved into live in and around Aswan and are still proud oftheir culture and their ancestors.
