RESUMEN
Desde el inicio de la epidemia infecciosa por el virus de inmunodeficiencia humana adquirida se ha
observado frecuentemente el compromiso de la cavidadbucal, asociado particularmente con los tejidos
periodontales. Formas severas de enfermedades periodontales se han presentado en los individuos con
esta infección, entre estas el eritema lineal, la gingivitis úlcero necrosante, la periodontitis úlcero necrosante, además de patologías como la candidiasis, leucoplasia pilosa, sarcoma de Kaposi y úlceras, entre
otras. Existe una predisposición a laperiodontitis crónica en estos pacientes, y a la periodontitis úlcero
necrosante como infección caracterizada por necrosis gingival, inversión de la papila, sangrado y dolor.
La ocurrencia de las lesiones bucales se ha correlacionado con las características clínicas, demográficas y
los parámetros inmunológicos y virológicos. Se presenta una revisión sobre manifestaciones periodontales de lainfección por el virus de inmuno deficiencia humana adquirida. El diagnóstico oportuno de las
lesiones periodontales puede proporcionar la primera indicación de infección por el virus de inmunodeficiencia humana, permitir prevenir la progresión de la enfermedad y mejorar la calidad de vida de estos
individuos.

ABSTRACT
Since the beginning of the infectious epidemic for the virus of the human immune-deficiency virus,
the commitment of the oral cavity, particularly associated to periodontal tissues has been observed. Severe
forms of periodontal diseases like lineal erythema, ulcerative necrotizing gingivitis and ulcerative necrotizingperiodontitis have been reported by individuals with this infection, as well as pathologies such as
candidiasis, hairy leukoplakia and Kaposi’s sarcoma among other. There exists a previous disposition to
chronic periodontitis in these patients and to ulcerative necrotizing periodontitis as an infection characterized by gingival necrosis, investment of the papilla, bleeding and pain. The occurrence ofthe oral lesions has been correlated with clinical and demographic characteristics and the viral and immunological
parameters. A literature review about periodontal manifestations of the infection by the acquired human
immune deficiency virus. The opportune diagnosis of periodontal diseases can provide the first indica-
