Introduction

Since 1940, when we introduced the industry’s first completion packer, we’ve been setting the standard for innovation and performance in packer technology. Our Baker Retainer Production Packer was the first tool to dependably isolate and produce two oil zones simultaneously. In 1955, we introduced the world’s first retrievable productionpacker, the Baker Full-Bore Retrievable Set-Down Packer, which proved key to exploiting oil reserves in the Gulf of Mexico. In 2001, the performance of a permanent packer and conveniences of retrievable packer were combined with the introduction of our Premier Removable Production packer. Today, when your projects push the edge of the completion technology envelope, you can count on our packers toreliably deliver best-in-class service, performance, and value. We offer a complete range of completion technology for all types of well environments. Our packer solutions cover the spectrum of applications, from single, selective and dual completions to advanced-technology completions such as high pressure/high temperature, deepwater, extendedreach, multilateral, and intelligent well systems. State-of-the-art research and engineering centers in Houston and Aberdeen, and manufacturing centers in the USA, UK,Singapore, and Venezuela, deliver completion solutions with unsurpassed quality and performance. For example, in 2008, we opened one of the world’s most advanced oilfield research and engineering facilities, The Center for Technology Innovation (CTI), furthering our commitment to developing new completion and production technologies. We designed the CTI to aid our research and engineering teams inachieving breakthroughs in four critical technology areas: deepwater wells, extreme high-pressure/high-temperature applications, production optimization, and large-diameter completions. The facility includes test cells rated for 700°F and 40,000 psi and more than 600 scientists and engineers conduct research in materials, fluids, elastomers, composites, and electronics. The facility’s rapidprototyping capabilities enable fast development of tool designs. Baker Hughes began a century of innovation with R.C. Baker’s casing shoe patent in 1907.
