Oil Drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
The question of whether to drill for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge has been a nonstop controversy for the politics in the United States since 1977. This matter has been used as a political gadget, mainly during the disputation electoral courses, and it has been a topic of discussions and debates on the social media.
Abig part of the debate about the controversy of whether the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge should be drilled is based on the big quantity of oil that should be economically recovered, with respect to the oil markets, weighed against the potential harm oil exploration might have on wildlife, particularly the calving land of the Porcupine caribou.
In the Republican Government ofthe United States have been used to fund weave a procedural ploy in order to authorize the exploitation of oil fields located in the basement of the National Wild Arctic Refuge in Alaska. In the Senate, there were less people against the oil drilling than people in favor of the issue. A movement from the administration of Bush was in control of the twenty years of the green political conflictundertaken by the environmental movement to save the companies and let them exploit the oil reserves, which were estimated by the U.S. government between 5600 and 16,000 million barrels of oil.
In 1960, the president Eisenhower created a National Shelter Animal Life in the Arctic; it was an area located in the north of Alaska with no terrestrial structure and people can only get there byair. Environmentalists argue that the implementation of the oil industry will be lethal to the colonies of caribou, polar bears, migratory birds and wildlife extensive individual and unique to the region (“Protecting the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.”).
The Bush Administration appreciates opening the Arctic Refuge to oil exploitation as a strategic asset for the U.S. energy toexercise its influence in the already complicated world of oil. Interestingly, the Bush administration with this decision surprised many experts and analysts because they said that the clear reality of the entrance of the oil era expensive efforts of a leading power forward should be betting on eco-efficiency and renewable energy. The decision to damage this natural area in Alaska is certainly outof a human mind. The Senate voted against the exploitation of the precious natural treasure; they said that drilling is not necessary to be done if everyone put a little of emphasis on the conservation of energy, and that it can be done by making more efficient vehicles and investing in renewable energy, also by further exploitation of the waters of the Gulf of Mexico where there are still hugereserves.
Barack Obama, the current president, is against to the drill of the Arctic area. In a questionnaire for voters he said that he strongly rejects drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge because it would cause an irremediable damage to a protected national wildlife refuge and at the end, it will no create enough oil supplies and affect the price of the global market orhave a tremendous impact on the security of the US energy. When the senator John McCain was running for the 2008 republican presidential elections, said that he does not want to drill in the Grand Canyon, nor in the Everglades. He considers these places two of the most beautiful land creations of the world.
In 2008, the U.S. Department of Energy informed its concerns of the USGSoil estimated for the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the arranged effects of the oil price and all the supplies. There is little familiarity about the oil’s geology of the Arctic Refuge region; the land’s oil production is not expected to provoke a major strike on the oil costs of the world. Additional oil being gathered from the drilling of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge would be only a...
