OLIVE JAPANNED BUREAU CABINETS POSSIBLY BY GILES GRENDEY.

Of olive lacquer with two color gilt decoration, giltwood and gilt brass mounts, the compartments of the upper and lower sections paintedin pale blue with dark red trimming. The upper section of each surmounted by a broken pediment centered by a turned and gilded finial, the pediment, centered by scrolling decoration flanked byperched eagles, above the two doors. Each door fitted with a rectangular beveled mirror plate framed with a border decorated with Chinese figures and scenes and diaper patterning, each door mounted with agilt escutcheon, the doors, lacquered and paneled to the reverse and decorated with Chinese flowers, opening to reveal a fully fitted interior. The interior centered by a rectangular lacquered doordecorated with a Chinese figure within a panel bordered by Chinese scenes and lattice patterning, the door flanked by folio divides and surrounded by two banks and two rows of compartments above threelacquered drawers with floral decoration. The doors above a narrow frieze concealing two candle slides above a gilt molding. The fall-front mounted with a brass escutcheon and decorated with anelaborate Chinese scene within a shaped panel flanked by diaper patterning. The upper section decorated to each side with birds within a rectangular panel. The fall-front, lacquered to the reverse andcentered by a Chinese lily within a panel surrounded by foliate decoration, opening to reveal a fully fitted interior centered by a rectangular door mounted with a gilt escutcheon and flanked to each side byfour compartments and two drawers with brass handles. The fall-front above three graduated drawers and two short drawers, each drawer mounted with brass handles and escutcheons and decorated withvarious Chinese scenes.
