"Introduction to Waves" Report
Questions:
1. Watch the sequence concerning the "people" wave. The wave moves from lower right to lower left and back. Compare the movementof a person in the crowd to the movement of the wave.
Ans: one single person in the crowd had to move from right to left and push another one in order to the wave to keep moving.
2. You will seeseveral examples of "mechanical" waves. What must be present for the propagation of a mechanical wave?
Ans: In order to be able to propagate, a mechanical wave needs a medium to travel.
3. Theanimation of a wave impulse passing through a substance can be related to the "people" wave. Briefly discuss the similarity between these two waves.
Ans: They are similar in the way that the disturb orimpulse causes that the substance push its particles making the wave continuous that’s similar to the people wave, because the impulse of one person make the other person to continue the wave.
4.In the section showing the relationship between music and waves, several wave terms are introduced. Define each term and include reference to symbols or equations if applicable.
A. Amplitude:The size of the disturbance which is preserved as the wave moves along.
B. Period: A definite time for each complete cycle.
C. Frequency: It’s the inverse of the Period, and the higherthe frequency, the higher the pitch.
D. Wavelength: Is the distance from one compression to another.
5. Sound waves make the music that we enjoy.
E. What determines the "pitch" of asound?
Ans: The pitch of a sound is determined by its frequency.
F. What determines the "loudness" of a sound?
Ans: The loudness of a sound is determined by its amplitude.
6. According tothe video, the wave speed equation is v = f. The symbol for wavelength is  (lambda), and the symbol for frequency is f. For a given wave with a certain speed, what will happen to the wavelength if...
