Comparative and Superlative of
Adjectives.

Grammar:
• Los grados comparativos y superlativos en ingles seforman como en español, anteponiéndole al adjetivo
la palabra MORE (más) y THE MOST (el más). Estas
estructuras se aplican a los Adjetivos largos (long
Adjectives) trisilábicos o polisilábicos; tales comoel
grupo siguiente:
•Beautiful
•Necessary
•Frequent
•Different
•Important
•Intelligent

Susan is more beautiful than Mary.
(Superlative) Louise is the most beautiful of all.(Comparative) Venezuela is more important than Cuba.
(Superlative) Barquisimeto is the most important city
of Venezuela.
(Comparative)

No obstante, cuando los adjetivos son cortos (short
adjectives),monosilábicos, formamos su comparativo
agregandole al adjetivo la terminación Er (más)
seguido de Than (que) y su superlativo, anteponiedole
el artículo The y agregandole la terminación Est (el
más).Short Adjectives:
• Long = largo / Longer = más largo /The longest= el más largo.
• Young = joven / Younger = más joven / The youngest = el mas
joven.
• Old = viejo / Older = más viejo / The oldest = elmás viejo.
• Tall = alto / Taller = más alto / the tallest = el más alto.
•Examples:
1. Orinoco river is longer than Caroni river. (Comparative)
2. Orinoco is the longest river of Venezuela.(Superlative)
3. Jumag is Younger than William. (Comparative)
4. Kamila is the youngest of all. (Superlative)
5. Robert is older than Louis. (Comparative)
6. Luke is the oldest in all. (Superlative)

Para loscomparativos de inferioridad se utiliza Less, que
significa menos (Comparativo) y Least, que significa el menos
(Superlativo)

• Ejemplo:
Less necesary = menos necesario.
