Our Survey

Nowadays, we can say that English has become a global language. In fact, it's considered a very relevant subject at school because of that. Now, people worldwide need it in every trip they make andif they don't learn it, they will probably be uncomfortable because they won't be able to communicate with the others.

English is not just the official language of the world; indeed it has becomethe Internet's language. The most part of what is written is in English, so if you try to look for information and you don’t understand it, you will be in trouble. Our project tries to show howimportant is it in our society and how much is it known by different people.

The reason why we decided to choose this project is because our city, La Línea, has always been a border town and hasinfluences from very different cultures. Our city has had a lot of contact with this language: many people have had couples from Gibraltar; others have worked or studied there…

In our work, we triedto give a more attractive or striking look, so we chose different people we found and we conducted a survey. Some of the questions that were asked are: -How much do you know about English? -When didyou start studying English? –What do you think about Gibraltar’s dilemma? –Do you think you’re lucky/fortunate to speak English?

The result wasn’t a surprise because only young or English peoplewanted to speak with us. All of them could answer our questions; some of the respondents said: “I know a little bit”, “English is the most spoken language”… But were they lying? We can’t know that.To sum up, we can also say that it was an exciting experience which has probably helped us. We could practice our accent with English people and that was perfect. Although, there were people whodidn’t want to appear in our video, so at first we had some problems.
