Overpopulation Essay

“Overpopulation is not only affecting economy and development of several countries, but also their environment”

Nowadays one of the problems that concerns humanity is overpopulation. This is “acondition where an organism's numbers exceed the carrying capacity of its habitat. The term often refers to the relationship between the human population and its environment, the Earth.” Overpopulationaffects economy and development of countries because it reduces the quantity of available resources, also affecting the environment conditions of our planet.

Economy and development are beenaffected by the growing population because more people means more demand, and less resources to satisfy basic main services and needs such as education, health, shelter, clothes, transportation, labor,fresh water, food and energy. The lack of these resources is bringing a low quality of life, unhygienic living conditions, poverty, diseases and a high infant and child mortality. On the year 2050, thepopulation of the world will be around 6 billion people and we will need a more organized society and a better management of resources with a sustainable approach.

Overpopulation also has a drasticeffect on the environment and to the ecology. The well-being of everything around us is been threatened because there will be more waste and sewerage causing air pollution, water pollution, soilcontamination and noise pollution. There is also a considerable amount of deforestation because of the need of space and materials used for housing. Ecosystems are been harmed and lost bringing massspecies extinction, changes in the atmospheric composition and consequently global warming.

It could be claimed that with a growing population there will be more people that will contribute findingsolutions to many of the problems that concern us nowadays like for instant economy, development and environment issues.
