Pain Poems Essay

Have you ever experienced the pain caused by either losing someone important to you or end a relationship with someone? It is very sad to go through those kinds of pain. Somepeople go days, months, and even years before they can overcome them, if they ever do. Other people move on, but they are always bearing the pain for the rest of their lives. Those kinds of pain remindme of two poems called “Rain in My Heart”, and “Pain –has an Element of Blank–”. These poems, which are very sad, are very similar because they both use figures of speech, but they are different inpunctuation and the emotions they have.
Both poems use figures of speech in the same way. The poet of the poem “Rain in My Heart” uses personification. For example, on line six it says, “And memorysleeps beneath the gray” to express that pain is always there with us. Also, the poet of the poem “Pain–has an Element of Blank–” uses personification, too. Like in line two and three when it says, “Itcannot recollect When it begun–”, in which he tried to say that a time without pain cannot be remembered.
The two poems use punctuation in a different way. The first poem uses punctuation in a normalway. However, the second poem uses punctuation differently in some ways. For example, on line three and 4 it says, “When it begun–or if there were A time when it was not–” where it uses dashes tomake it easier for readers to understand the poem. It also uses capitalization to emphasize certain important words, like in line 5 it says, “It has no Future–but itself–”.
The two poets made theirpoems have different emotions. The first poem has a depressed emotion because the speaker tries to overcome the pain of a past love. Like in lines seven and eight where it says, “And windless sky andbrings no dreams Of any well remembered day.” The second poem has a shock emotion because the speaker has a lot of pain, maybe a grief for someone who is gone.
