We see parabolas every day without taking in consideration why are they applied in many different structures for examplePonte Hercilio Luz was created in 1922 by Sergio Schmiegelow it is located in Florianopolis, in the state of Santa Catarina in Brazil, it is a massive bridge, one of the biggest suspension bridge in theworld, with a distance of 819 471 meters there for its weight is huge, 5 thousand tons, with such a tremendous weight the bridge contains two towers of 75 meters from sea level, and its eye bars areof great dimensions, and no wonder, they are parabolas to take all of this weight and give a firm support.
The Eiffel tower is probably one of the most recognized buildings inthe world, it is a fantastic and extravagant creation by Gustave Eiffel made in 1889 and it is the tallest tower in Paris, it is made of pure puddle iron and other non-metal components, and weights10 thousands tones but that is not what concerned Eiffel the most, it was the wind, being a tall structure meant bigger winds, So Gustave created and arch (parabola) in each of its sides of the firstpart of his creation, then he united the edges at the very top, creating a really effective way to stop the tower from falling, it was is so efficient that it only moves 6 to 7 cm. the parabola givesgreat support to the second part of the tower, and also carries with all of the weight.
Do all the ways lead to Rome? Well in the use of parabolas yes.
Pont du Gard is by far afine example of the use of parabolas, and we know that they were used way back in time (40-60 AD) apart from arches used in many other constructions made by the romans (the coliseum, the arc ofConstantine and many more) they employed a technique that involved the use of barrel and groin vaults, which means that we can see many arches in Rome,
apart from being stylish, the romans created this...
