Past perfect
The Past Perfect refers to a time earlier than before now. It is used to make it clear that one event happened before another in the past.
The Past Perfect is composed of twoparts:
[had + the past participle of the main verb]

Examples:
She only understood the movie because she had read the book.
I had never seen such a beautifulbeach before I went to Kauai.
Kristine had never been to an opera before last night.
