* ·Trustbusting - Roosevelt’s government activities in 1900s seeking to dissolve corporate trusts and monopolies. For example when in Pennsylvania coal miners went on strike because they wanted a pay raise, but the owners to the coal mines didn’t listen, Roosevelt took action and threatened those owners to take their coal mines if they didn’t take importance of their employees.This is relevant because it gave more protection to workers and regulated the Trusts’ power.

* ·New Freedom- In 1912 Woodrow Wilson’s program which looked similar to Roosevelt’s. It was to place strict government controls on corporations in order to benefit small businesses, create more opportunities and more freedom. Its relevant because some of his reforms and economic measures are stillimportant in American life today

* ·Square Deal - President Roosevelt’s plan and program in 1900s to convince American of his reform proposals and the need for change in the economic situations, his goals were to keep the wealthy and powerful from taking advantage of small business owners and the poor. Its is relevant because it was work with benefits and protection to those who deserved it,for example the coal miners in Pennsylvania who weren’t being fairly treated, he threatened the leaders, if they didn’t hear their employees he would send federal troops to take charge of the mines.

* ·William Jennings Bryan - (1860-1925) received the name of “The Great Commoner” being not only a great speaker but as well some who favored the poor instead of big corporations, was electedfirstly to take place in the House of representatives and then was chosen by President Woodrow Wilson in 1913 and named Secretary of State. Relevant because he committed himself to create and keep peace; he persuaded 31 countries to make international disputes instead of war.

* Florence Kelley – In 1899, Florence Kelley who believed that women were hurt by high prices and needs to run theirhomes. She helped found the National Consumers League. This improved and achieved government to get involved in keeping safety regulations in workplaces and pay the unemployed; the National Consumers League is still running today. She also helped form the Women’s Trade Union League to improve factory conditions for female factory workers. She’s relevant because she improved women’s livingconditions in those times and her programs are still helping people today.

* Muckrakers - In the early 1900s investigators who were fascinated with the ugliest conditions of America got this name by Theodore Roosevelt because a muckraker is a tool to clean hay and feces out of animal stables. Some of the information that these writers exposed was political corruption and social problems. Someinfluential muckrakers in this time period were: Lincoln Steffens and Jacob Riis. They were important because their ideas were published in newspapers and spread throughout the country.

* ·Las Gorras Blancas - In early 1890’s Mexican Americans who fought to maintain their land and rights throughout the southwest. Their solutions to the whites who were unfairly dividing the land was to damagetheir property by cutting their barbed wire and burning their homes. This is relevant because it brought and exemplifies tension between ethnical groups in the U.S.

1) Describe the composition, goals, and outcomes of the Populist movement of the late 19th century. What leaders and factors influenced the course the movement took?
The Populist Party with help of James B. Weaver and JamesField mentioned their goals in Omaha, Nebraska in July 1892. This party turned out to spread fast as they came up with specific solutions to problems that were causing trouble in the population. They fought political corruption, low prices and high costs, they demanded ownership of railroads and helped too the cause of women’s suffrage with help of Mary E. Lease. In 1896 they ended up falling apart...
