• Administrative Divions of China.

[1]China is located in the Asian continent. It shares borders with 14 countries: Afghanistan, Bhutan, Burma, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Mongolia, Nepal, North Korea, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Vietnam.
China is divided into 23 provinces, 5 autonomous regions, 4 municipalities directly under the Central Government, and 2 special administrative regions.

The People's Republic of China (PRC) controls mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao while the Republic of China controls Taiwan and nearby islands.

Special administrative’s regions.

Hong Kong was occupied by British forces in1841 but in 1997 it returned to the PRC, Hong Kong has a high degree of autonomy as a special administrative region in all areas except defence and foreign affairs. The region maintains its capitalist economic system and guarantees the rights and freedoms of its people. Macao was a Portuguese colony and both the first and last European colony in China. Portuguese traders first settled in Macau in the 16th century and subsequently administered the region until 1999.
