Peripheral neuropathy overview (1)
Is the term given to severe damage to the nerves(the main responsible are diseases and trauma) of the peripheral nervous system, the responsible for controlling all systems the body in a very smooth way as well as every single interaction between human beings and the environment. The nervous system consists in millions and millions ofneurons (name for brain cells) that are linked to one another in a very intricate way allowing our body to communicate and control every single organ and part inside our body, these network (as you can say) its so precise that we don’t even, millions of messages are sent every single second thought out this nervous system that in total harmony keep us alive.
Vital functions include:
* The fivesenses (sight, touch, smell, hearing and taste)
* Chosen functions (walking, holding and object, laughter, etc.)
* Automatic or involuntary functions (breathing, heart beating, blood pressure etc.)
* Cognitive reasoning, logic, ability to think and learn etc.
The human nervous system consists of two major components,
* Central nervous system (the responsible for given orders andsending message to and through all our body. Main components the brain and the spinal cord)
Peripheral nervous system (some of its main components include all the nerves that stretch all the way from the brain and the spinal cord to all parts of the human body. Other highly important and specialized nerves conform this system and are responsible for carrying important messages from the brain tothe body, this messages give humans the ability to
1. Move hands, feet, fingers, eyes, mouth etc.
2. Touch, temperature differences, vibrations and other capabilities.
3. Breath, blood pressure, digestion and bladder function.
There are four different directions that peripheral neuropathy can lead to polyneuropathy, mononeuropathy, mononeurtitis multiplex and autonomic neuropathy.Although there are different ways in which peripheral neuropathy can escalate the most common one is (symmetrical) peripheral polyneuropathy predominantly the lower extremities; peripheral neuropathy symptoms are usually described or associated with pain, numbness, tingling, burning and weakness. This form of peripheral neuropathy can also be divided by cause or by the size of predominant fiberinvolvement. In many occasions peripheral neuropathy cannot be identified and is designated as idiopathic peripheral neuropathy. Depending on the amount of nerves that were affected or the type of nerve cell damaged a different classification will be assigned from the ones above.
A. Mononeuropathy – it only affects a single nerve. Differentiation from polyneuropathies is really important because itcan be easier to identify or to scope out trauma or infection.
i. the most common example for people suffering from this type of nerve damage is the “pins and needles sensation of one’s foot falling asleep”

B. Polyneuropathy - “poly” meaning several, in this case referring to damage in multiple nerve cells in different parts of the body. The most commonly known form ofpolyneuropathy is associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
ii. The result of this condition can affect more than one part of the body, usually on left and right sides symmetrically. Main symptoms include: weakness, clumsiness of movement, reduction in ability to feel texture, temperature and noticeable problems with balance when standing or walking. Autonomic symptoms may also be present.C. Mononeuritis multiplex- is a simultaneous or chronological involvement of individual noncontiguous nerve trunks, either partially or entirely escalating over days and years subsequentially acute or subacute loss of sensory and motor functions can be experienced of individual peripheral nerves; attention to this pattern of early symptoms is important.
iii. Pain can also be felt...
