The Persian culture
The Persian Empire was one of the biggest Empires known to mankind, but what highlights this empire was the way of governing upon the new conquered cities, allowing them to betheir own selves and to keep their culture. One example is King Cyrus, who allowed the Jews to go back to Jerusalem to rebuild their city and their temple. For the conquered cities this was the bestEmpire that they were under.
The Persians differ from the other empires thanks to their capability to maintain a heterogeneous and homogeneous empire. The first one refers to the policies ofcentralization of power, to form a national shared conscience by everyone were the biggest representation was going to be the king; the second was to govern with cultural tolerance. That means that they didn’tdo like the Assyrians who would suffocate rebellions through military power and fear like erasing cultures.
The empire was divided and organized in satrapies, governed by nobles designated by theking to collect tributes, and they will represent the highest civil authority, but not military. They were the best administrated empire, due to the routes system that united all the cities and distantpoints. One of the most important routes was the royal road.
They possessed the most spiritual and moralist religion after the Hebrews. Zoroaster imposed the Mazdeism religion, were they believe inonly one god named Ahura Mazda and his enemy Arhiman. The best sacrifice for this god was for them to have a pure life, and good actions; they believed in the immortality of the soul, and they conductedby truth and justice.
Although Persians gained a lot of territory, they lacked of a unified culture and art, because the way of living for them varied from region to region due to the differentcultures that lived under the Persian Empire.
