PHONETICS
It is the branch of Linguistics that studies the production, transmision and reception of speech sounds.

The English Language has 26 letters and more than 40 sounds. The sounds of thelanguaje are divided into vowels and consonants. When the vocal cords vibrate, the sound is “voiced”, when the vocal cords don`t vibrate, the sound is “voiceless”. All vowels are voiced, butconsonants can be voiced or voiceless. In addition all vowels and some consonants can use a shorter or a longer period of time depending of wich sounds precede or follow.

The phonetic alphabet includesmost of the 26 letters of the alphabet and other new simbols. These phonetic letters and symbols must be written between “slash mark”.

Consonant sounds
