DEFINITION
To come up with an exact poetry definition is difficult. If we want the literal definition from a dictionary it would say something like “the art of rhythmical composition, written or spoken, forexciting pleasure by beautiful, imaginative, or elevated thoughts” but is much more than that. poetry is different to everyone of us,thats its magic and what makes it so special. Is a form of literal art and a short piece of intense meaningful creative writing. Poetry is imagination. Poetry is love and joy, sadness and sorrow, anger and reflection. Poetry is art. The poet writes waiting to have an emocional response from the reader. It consists in saying most in the fewest nomber of words
Poetry may or may not have a storybut it has a structured way of writing.

ELEMENTS
- Rhythm: This is the music made by the syllables of the poem. Reading the poem aloud is the best way to understand it. Listen for the sounds and the music made when the poem is read out loud.

- Meter: This is the basic structure of the poem. The syllables must match with each other. Every line in the poem must belong to this structure. Apoem is made up of groups of lines, which have a common thought. Within those groups, a structure of syllables which with rhythm must be added.

- Stanza: Stanza is a small Group of linesn like a small parragraph with its own meter and rhyme scheme. Based on the number of lines, stanzas are named as couplet (2 lines), Tercet (3 lines), Quatrain (4 lines), Cinquain (5 lines), Sestet (6 lines),Septet (7 lines), Octave (8 lines).

- Rhyme: poems not always have rhyme. The way of knowing if it has rhyme is if the last words or rounds of the lines match with each other in some form. Free verse poetry does not follow this.

- Rhyme Scheme: It is the pattern of rhyme. It consists on the last words of the first and second lines rhyming with each other, or the first and the third, secondand the fourth rhyming too. It is named by alphabet letters like aabb (1st line rhyming with 2nd, 3rd with 4th); abab (1st with 3rd, 2nd with 4th); etc.

- Alliteration: This is used in poems for sound effect. An alliteration is the sound effect generated by several words in a sentence starting with the same alphabet or syllable sound make while reading aloud.

- Simile: its a comparison usingthe words like or as.

- Metaphor: A metaphor is also a comparison but without using the words like and as.

- Theme: Is what the poem is all about. The central idea and the message that it leaves you, either a story, an emotion, a thought, etc.

- Imagery: this method is used by the poet for readers to create an image in their imagination. Imagery appeals to all the five senses.

-Symbol: Something that represents something else through association, resemblance or convention.

TYPES

- Couplet: Is the most popular type of poetry. It has stanzas made up oftwo lines which rhyme with each other.

- Quatrain: This kind of poem has four lines in a stanza, of which the second and fourth lines have the same syllable structure and rhyme with each other.

- Cinquain: It is made up of five lines. The first line is just one word, which is often the title of the poem. The second line has two words which describe the first line. The third line has threewords, and is mostly the action part of the poem. The fourth line is four words describing the feelings. And the fifth line has Orly one word, the same from the first line.
