Police Dogs
Police dogs are very useful and help a lot when a thief is running away and trying to escape. Many breeds are trained for this job, but German Shepherds are themost common, because they can attack, protect the officer, do ground based tracking and air based tracking, locate human remains, locate drugs and evidence too. Police dogs put their lives on the lineto protect us every day.
Odin was a police officer’s German shepherd, who helped in catching 2 drug dealers in California in early March of 2004. Bill Dodd, who is Odin owner, was buying coffee whenhe was alerted from a car from a suspected drug dealer. He was investigating it when two suspects fled from the car, just one was caught by the police and the other man ran as fast as he could and heescaped. About three hours passed while police looked for him, until Odin found him inside a house with all the doors closed holding a gun. When the police tried to get inside the house the suspectstarted shooting at them and ran away again. The police force’s helicopter followed him until he was cornered. He still had a handgun and police officers were scared to move in, so Odin ran towards himand bit him so hard that he fell to the ground. The drug dealer was finally caught and sentenced to 30 years in jail; all because of Odin the Police Dog. He became a real hero.
