History: Poland was founded in 966 by Mieszko I. In 1047, Great Poland and Little Poland united by the rule of Casimir I. Poland merged with Lithuania by royal marriage in1386. The first partition of the country in 1772, second in 1792, and third in 1795.For more than a century there was no Polish state only Austrian, Prussian, and Russian, but the Polish never stop tryingtheir independence. The Polish get in arms on19th century. Poland was formally reconstituted in Nov. 1918, with Marshal Josef Pilsudski as president. In 1919, Ignace Paderewski became the first primeminister. In 1926, Pilsudski ruled dictatorially until his death on May 12, 1935.
In 1934, Hitler attacked Poland on Sept. 1, 1939. Soviet invaded Poland on Sept. 17, and on Sept. 28, German-Sovietdivided Poland with the USSR and Germany. The Polish government-in-exile was replaced with the Communist-dominated Polish Committee of National Liberation by the Soviet Union in 1944. After that cityliberation, they called it the Provisional Government of Poland. On Aug. 2, 1945, in Berlin, President Harry S. Truman, Joseph Stalin established a new western frontier for Poland along the Oder andNeisse rivers. Aug. 16, 1945, the USSR and Poland signed a treaty. Under this treaty Poland was changed westward. In the east, we lost 180,934 km; in the west, it get 100,973 km.
