I have heard that college is the most amazing experience for ateenager. You get to meet new people, expand your knowledge, attend college activities, such as athletic events, social and outdoors camps.
I decided to move to America two years ago to get a bettereducation and learn a new language. I’m originally from Monterrey, Mexico but I have lived in Livingston, Texas since I moved here. The first weeks down here were really hard because my parents weren’t withme. With the help of school counselors and friends I became a very good person and student.
The main reason that I’m in the Pathways Programs is that, when I move here, the classes I took in Mexicodidn’t count for my hours, so I started with a very low GPA. The fact that I passed my entire TAKS test without knowing a bit of English didn’t matter to the Admissions Office. But I’m glad I’m in theProgram because I won’t get surprised once the actual semester starts.
My family was the main reason why I’m attending college. The summer before my high school year I went to Mexico to visit themand celebrate my birthday. Everything was doing just fine until my mother started to feel dizzy. It was my birthday but I decided to take her to the hospital first. The doctor called us a week later toinform us that she had kidney cancer. It was devastating and discouraging. She is been in recession for a year, so I decided to attend college because I didn’t want to live with any regrets.
