Porcupine Tree Biography

1.Introduction

Porcupine Treee is an actual progressive hard rock band!
I mean actual because the sucessors from progressive rock are from the last 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s. Similar band: Opeth(A bit obviously because of the same producer).

2.Biography

One day Steve Wilson were thinking of producing a new band, then he decide to front a new band whose name would be Porcupine Tree,he is well-known for other jobs in Swedish progressive bands as Opeth, No-Man, Blackfield.
Before of being a “band” Steve Wilson were trying to make a solo project. And he was trying hard.
Theirfirst major realease is “On the Sunday life”, and it was realeased in 1992, but in the late 93’ this solo project became a band project in which there would be 3 new integrants; Colin Edwin (bass),Chris Maitland (drums), and Richard Barbieri (keyboards), so PT could perform live.

Their first album recorded as a band was “Signify” in 1996, and 3 years later they recorded “Stupid Dream” 1999,after all the mess and studio thing, porcupine change their direction for the first and nowadays last time, their bass man were replaced for Gavin Harrison in 2002. And signed to a new internationalrecording company Lava / Atlantic Records.

With this international company they could work in their best albums, their first album recorded in Lava was “in Absentia”, then “Deadwing”, and wasnominated to a grammy, after this great album, continues “Fear of a Blank Planet” (one of my favorites, or maybe my favorite), That augmented their renown, and in their way to their major album there weresome little works as a acoustic albums and other singles that were renowned.
Finally, they moved to one of the greatest rock label Roadrunner for Europe.
