Social Studies Essay
After World War I people believed in a new era of liberal democracy, but things didnt really end that well. Major western powers suffered an economic hardship and a risingunemployment. All the hopes were over by a series of events that lead many countries, especially Germany, to pay the prieces of war.
To start, it is very important to know how World War I ended:Americans arrieved in 1917 and Germany decided to gave up because they were losing in all their fronts. With the exit of Russia the war was officialy over.
Due to the collapse many countries loseterritory and some others gained more, Austria-Hungary formed the countries of Checoslovakia, Australia, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Poland and Yugoslavia. Russia and Germany gave territory to Poland. Also,from Russia appeared Finland, Baltic States, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Some of this countries have some challenges to democracy, the new democratic governments angered land owners by breakingapart old aristocratic estates and giving the land to peasants.
One good event from this war, was that the women of Britain and United States gained the right to vote. Unfortunatly, France was not solucky. France suffered the most damages, land mines and unexploted shells continued taking lives after war.
In November 9, 1918, a new German republic known as The Weimar Republic was proclaimed.Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht besieged the provisional government with the intention of established a communist regime, but the rebellion collapsed. Then, in 1923 a rebellion broke out in Munich itwas known as the Beer Hall Putsh, it was easily put down and the Weimar Republic never gained momentum. The rebellion was lead by German General Ludendorff and Adolf Hitler.
Another revolution wasocurring in Russia, the Russian Revolution raised fears of a worldwide communist movement. Other organizations as the KU KLUX KLAN called for a “native white protestant supremacy” and violent...
