Precautionary Principle in Canada

As we know, the precautionary principle states that in case of a potential risk of a serious and irreversible damage to the environment, a good action will haveto be made in order to prevent the disaster to generate and grow without the need of more scientific investigations. Canada has been living with an amazingly clean environment for the last decadethanks to the following of the definition that was stated by the Canadian Environmental Protection Act in 1999 that says: “Whereas the Government of Canada is committed to implementing the precautionaryprinciple that, where there are threats of serious or irreversible damage, lack of full scientific certainty shall not be used as a reason for postponing cost-effective measures to preventenvironmental degradation”.
But even Canada which is known as one of the cleanest countries In the world, it also suffers from environmental problems like any other country, causing new campaigns ofenvironmental protection and new techniques that are taught to the society. An example of great damage to the environment in Canada are the industries around the country, that in the creation of the products ofthat company, pollution is expelled out to the atmosphere affecting it in different ways like overcrowded landfills that encroach on wildlife habitats; toxic substances that can cause eggshellthinning, deformities, reproductive dysfunction, tumors, embryo and adult mortality in wildlife, and acid rain that can cause an alteration to the aquatic food web. But as part of the Canadian society, itscitizens can contribute to the conservation of a clean environment by doing small but greatly beneficial tasks such as avoiding the use of toxic substances, reducing home energy use, recovering,reusing and recycling materials, and buying and using green products.
