PREPOSICIONES
LA DEFINICIÓN GRAMÁTICA: las preposiciones en inglés son palabras funcionales que se combinan con otras palabras, series de palabras, o lo que llaman en ingles “noun phrases” (“frases sustantivo”), para formar una frase que puede tener una relación advervial o calificativa con alguna otra palabra.
LA DEFINICIÓN PRÁCTICA: las preposiciones sirven de enlace entre palabras dentrode una oración. Dependiendo del sentido de la oración podemos utilizar preposiciones de tiempo, lugar, movimiento, etc.
PREPOSICIONES DE LUGAR
ON (ON) - SOBRE, EN, ENCIMA DE
He was standing on the corner waiting for her.
El estaba parado en la esquina esperándola.
* There was a spider on the wall.
Había una araña en la pared.
UPON (APÓN) - SOBRE, EN, ENCIMA DE (IGUAL QUE "ON", PEROMÁS FORMAL)
Bill was eating with his elbows upon the table.
Bill estaba comiendo con sus codos sobre la mesa.
IN (IN) - EN, DENTRO DE
There were two girls swimming in the river.
Había dos chicas nadando en el río.
AT (AT) - EN
The museum is at the end of this street.
El museo está al final de esta calle.
INSIDE (INSÁID) - DENTRO DE, EN
The water is cold because it was inside thefridge.
El agua está fría porque estaba en la heladera.
OUTSIDE (ÁUTSÁID) - AFUERA, FUERA, FUERA DE
Jack hopes to be outside the prison soon.
Jack espera estar fuera de la cárcel pronto.
ABOVE (ABÁV) - ENCIMA DE, SOBRE, ARRIBA
The patient's temperature was above normal.
La temperatura del paciente estaba por encima de lo normal.
BELOW (BILÓU) - DEBAJO DE
Jane had a pimple justbelow her right eye.
Jane tenía un grano justo debajo de su ojo derecho.

Un pez saltó del agua dentro de la canoa.

El gato saltó a la mesa.
