Presence of Organochlorine Pesticides in Human milk as biological indicator of enviromental polluting agents.

Studies on enviromental contaminants in humantissues and fluids provide a reliable estimation of the pollution degree of the population exposed to. Organochlorine pesticides belongs to a group of persistent organic contaminants (COP´S)pollutants. Their physical-chemistry stability and their lipophility confers them a long persistence in the human body, more precisely in the lipid fraction tissues.
The pesticides can get in the humanbody through the feeding or by environmental exposure (working places and their living places). The food can be contaminated by three different ways: environmental contamination of water and pastureof the crop, as consequence of the phytosanitary treatment of the animals, fumigation of vegetables or as additive in the food industry as preservative.
When the mother are exposed topesticides, the contaminants are accumulated in their glandula mamaria,(como se dice) . The milk they provided have different levels of this pesticides depending of the level of exposure, the diet, theage, the number of births, etc. When they feed their babies , the pesticides cross the placenta and reach similar levels in the cord blood , in addition, the infant nursing suppose a continuemobilization of lipofilic compounds from the fatty tissues to the milk and its later infant intake. This implies that fetus and infants are exposured to background levels of pesticides during their lives.The study of this compounds in human milk is a non-invasive method to determinate their levels which has received increasing attention in the last years.
