Pride and Prejudice
The novel describes a little over a year in the life of a small group of young people in the countryside near London at the turn of the century (the eighteenth to the nineteenth) reign of George III. In the center of this society is the lovely and very foolish Bennet family, with five marriageable daughters, aged between 15 and 23 years (highest to lowest: Jane, Elizabeth,Mary, Kitty and Lydia finally). Mrs. Bennet sees marriage as the only hope for their daughters since the death of Mr. Bennet girls remain stranded when Mr. Collins (heir of all because the property is tied) qualifies.
