Topic A: LGBT Rights In The Developing World
Topic A: LGBT Rights In The Developing World
Introduction
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transsexual people have been socially denied since thebeginning century. They have been denied because people think it was a mental illness and most of the main religions such as Catholic, Muslim, Jewish, Baptist, Anglican, Methodists, etcetera, does not accept gay marriages and/or lesbian, transgender and bisexual. Throughout time the LGBT rights have been accepted in more countries but still over 80 countries maintain sodomy laws that punish homosexualpeople and in some countries the punishment is death.
Bahamas History
Local people and visitors mix the LGBT in the Bahamas. Homosexuality in the Bahamas has been legal since 1991 but homophobia has been in Bahamas also and that’s a problem to them since there are no organizations, parades, and legal protections for homosexuals. The Bahamas government promotes equal rights to homosexuals, butthe government hasn’t ensured that homosexuals are in the non-discrimination clauses in laws over the past 20 years.
Current Situation in Bahamas
The Bahamas is a country witch is currently legal male and female same-sex sexual activity, however the same-sex couples don’t receive the same amount of protection as the heterosexual couples. Discrimination in areas such as employment, education, housing, health care, banking and public business on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity is not illegal. LGBT Marriage is no illegal, and there are no prohibitions on gays serving to the country (Military).
On June 17 2011, the Bahamas Government promoted equal rights to all, regardless of their sexual orientation, however homophobia is an actual problem in the Bahamas the LGBTcommunities receive more discrimination because the majority of the Bahamas is Conservative Christian and some of Conservative Christian hate LGBT communities, as a Christian once said “When someone doesn't agree with my Christian worldview, I can become unloving. "Although in the Bahamas there have been made some Gay bars and gay beaches for them to be less uncomfortable.
Proposals andsolutions
Due that homophobia is spread in the entire world; solutions need to be apply in the entire world besides than in the developing countries. In the homophobia there are three types of countries: The developed countries that fully accept LGBT marriages. The developing countries that are considering making LGBT marriages legal, that there’s not criminal law against it, or some rights but notfully. And finally countries which marriage is completely prohibited or/and laws criminalizing homosexuals due of their religious views like Muslim, and sometimes it is punishable by death.
The developing countries, which is in consideration to legalize such as LGBT people or marriages but that arrant legal yet or has some rights to encourage those countries and to help them economically as wellto do charities and foundation to make gay bars, gay beaches, gay entertainment centers etc. For them to be more confortable. For the countries that already legalize LGBT marriages doesn’t mean that in those countries theirs no homophobia. A proper solution for homophobia in legalized countries would be to use propaganda like motivational speakers with examples of a LGBT marriage, anti homophobianetworks, websites, programs between schools of tolerance, and racism, campaigns, etc.
Another solution would be to make a treaty in which states that countries that have LGBT marriage’s legal and low discrimination or homophobia, to let them emigrate to those countries and stay and live there. United Nations is going to support economically to those countries that are in this treaty. This...
