The experience of an artist in a foreign country

The home town of anindividual gives that person certain knowledge of his/her culture. Theatre, music, painting, dancing or any other way of artistic expression has its own characteristic depending on the place of birth. Inthat sense, when I began my first guitar lessons, they were given to me by a grown up man who had spent his life playing music of my region. Tango, Chamamé, Waltz and other folk music were the stylesthat first I began to play. However, living in a global age, my music preferences were Blues, Rock ‘n Roll, Grunge, Samba, Candombe, Cumbia, Rumba… In fact, I began to open my mind to different stylesall around the world with the aim of creating beautiful things.

Similarly, my beginning in theatre was as a street artist. Taking theatre to different places of my town and cities to peoplewho have a difficult access to a theatre to watch a play requires the artist to be involved in his reality. In that sense, we must use a popular speech and a realistic approach to real life that fitsthe audience, thus making art in a dialect which reflects the typical characteristics of our region. However, once again the influence of the globalized world has taken me and my group to new forms ofacting. As a result, Stand-up, Impro Performance, sit-coms, and clown techniques are styles that inspire us at the moment of acting.

New technologies and global communication make communitiesfrom different cultures, costumes and forms of art that enrich our way of expression come closer. Nevertheless, if someone has the opportunity to personally know a different culture by travelling asa cultural exchange, that person would not only enrich him/her-self and his community, but also the host community.
