At the age of two years,she began singing church songs with her mother, Judith. Judith recognized her two-year-old daughter's talents after hearing her. She struggled to pay attention in school, sometimes being kicked out ofclass for misbehaving, her parents supported her singing. Her father John bought her a drum kit, a keyboard, and guitars. When she was 14, her parents took her to karaoke classes and she beganwriting her own songs.
In 1999, Lavigne won a radio contest singing with the Canadian singer Shania Twain in Ottawa. On december, Lavigne was discovered by her first professional manager, while singing ata bookstore in Ontario.

Avril collaborated with the foundation against cancer and AIDS Foundation, which annually brings togethercelebrities from around the world in a great charity.
In 2008, she launched a clothing line called Abbey Dawn, where some of their shirts have messages about the fight against cancer.
