Oddballs in the Laundry
A police officer is an authority figure. Officers are viewed as peace-keepers and relied on to maintaincommunities and keep civilians in line. Most of the police force does their duties and takes pride in what they do. Unfortunately, like almost every situation, there is a bad side. Some of the officers taketheir privilege of authority for granted and go against rules and morals in doing so. In the article, “They’ll ‘Find a Reason’ to Lock You Up”, different stories are taken into account and in a verydirect opinion, brought to light. Because of bad decisions from those cops who don’t act as they should, and how they are expected to act, a bad name is spread for the rest of them.
Reading thestories about police officers twisting the original circumstance, making comments with the purpose to provoke, and not following laws was extremely frustrating due to the fact that these actions do reallyhappen. I have never had first-hand experience with any incident involving bad meetings with cops, but I have heard stories either through the grape vine, or seen on the news when an event is public.A lot of time when there are huge, chaotic events and the stress level is high, officials think they can get away with breaking rules and taking away others’ rights. Events that come to mind areriots, after natural disasters, and protests. On a more secluded note, if no one is around when someone is confronted, there are no witnesses therefore, no matter what happens, it is the victim’s wordverse the word of someone higher up in the legal system due to their career. In such cases, much of society does not want to believe there is such a thing as a “dirty cop”.
It is obvious that the authorof this article has very strong, one-sided opinions about police officers in general. I do agree that there are bad cops, maybe even more than we realize. I think that this article may help the...
