PRONUNCIATION ESSAY.
In this semester we study the subject of pronunciation with three books: Touchstone, English Pronunciation, andEnglish Pronunciation for Spanish Speakers. In this document I´m going to give you some differences and similarities between these books.


The first book which we study is English Pronunciationwritten by Robert Lado and Charles C. Fries. In the English Language Institute Staff. For my point of view this book is very interesting because it has many words to pronounce and practice theintonation because it has intonation markings, in the words written that appears in the book we have to pronounce in letters and in symbols, too.
This book has a phonemic alphabet where each distinctiveconsonant sound is represented by a different symbol that allows us understand the differences in sounds and it help us to remember the intonation. Moreover this book has minimal pairs exercises,diagrams and charts that are very useful.


The second book that we study is Touchstone written by Michael McCarthy, Jeanne McCarten and Helen Sandyford with the help of Cambridge Corpus of NorthAmerican English. From my point of view this book doesn’t have much about Pronunciation it is not very useful; Contrary to the first book it has grammar, vocabulary and conversation strategies butnot pronunciation strategies and it doesn’t use a phonemic alphabet. However using this book we can put in practice our pronunciation because the book has a lot of conversations and exercises tointeract with our classmates.


The third book that we study is English Pronunciation for Spanish Speakers; this book is similar of useful that the first book because it has Minimal Pairs Exercises,charts and explanations about how we should pronounce correctly, and in comparison with the second book this also has conversation strategies and the words written doesn’t have a phonemic alphabet....
