La minería constituye, en el caso de Perú, uno de los sectores productivos más relevantes desde el punto de vista de su capacidad para la generación de recursos económicos.
Al mismo tiempo, lasactividades mineras muchas veces ponen a los trabajadores en condiciones y en situaciones de trabajo que podrían considerarse de alto riesgo. Esta calificación puede ser tanto consecuencia de los procesos tecnológicos que se utilizan, como por las características geográficas y el medio ambiente en el que se ubican los emplazamientos de los yacimientos, los modos operativos en que se planifica yejecuta el trabajo (tales como la duración y forma en que se organizan las jornadas o los turnos laborales), o aun por otros factores. Por unas u otras razones, la vida, la seguridad y la salud de los trabajadores mineros requieren de medidas preventivas especiales destinadas a protegerlos. Por ello, la especificidad de las actividades mineras y la necesidad de esa protección han quedadorecogidas en la legislación peruana ya desde principios del siglo XX.
En este informe se presentan de manera integrada tanto las condiciones de trabajo y de vida en que la gran mayoría de los trabajadores mineros cumplen con sus labores, como los principales problemas de seguridad, salud y riesgos que enfrentan, y las medidas que son necesarias y que se ponen en práctica para controlarlos y mitigarlos.El informe comprende tanto a la gran minería como a la pequeña minería artesanal, a la cual se le dedica el presente trabajo.














ABSTRACT

Mining constitutes, in the case of Peru, one of the productive sectors most relevant from the point of view of its capacity for the generation of economic resources.
At the same time, mining activities often put workers inconditions and in work situations that could be considered high risk. This qualification can be both a consequence of technological processes that are used, such as the geographic features and the environment in which are located the sites of the deposits, the operating modes in which is being planned and implemented the work (Such as the duration and form in that are organized or job shifts), or even byother factors. By some or other reasons, the life, health and safety of the miners require special preventive measures intended to protect them. For this reason, the specificity of the mining activities and the need for this protection have been reflected in the Peruvian legislation since the beginning of the twentieth century.
In this report are presented in an integrated manner both the workingand living conditions in that the vast majority of the miners comply with their work, such as the main problems of safety, health and risks they face, and the measures which are necessary and which are put into practice to control and mitigate them. The report covers both the large-scale mining as to the small artisanal mining, to which she dedicates this work.
