EN PACIENTES QUE CONSULTARON AL
HOSPITAL INFANTIL UNIVERSITARIO RAFAEL
HENAO TORO DE MANIZALES DEL 1 DE
SEPTIEMBRE DE 2004 A MARZO DEL 2005

Resumen
Introducción: Los accidentes constituyen uno de los problemas de salud pública
más importantes en todo el mundo, porque ocasionan una elevada mortalidad y discapacidades permanentes. Generalmente los accidentes ocurren a causa de hechos,
circunstancias y condiciones ambientales que los facilitan y que, sin excepción,son
prevenibles.
Objetivo: Determinar las causas más frecuentes de trauma en extremidades en menores de edad.
Materiales y métodos: Se revisaron 658 historias de pacientes que consultaron en el
Hospital Infantil Universitario Rafael Henao Toro de Manizales, en un período comprendido entre Septiembre 2004 a Marzo del 2005, se obtuvo información sobre edad, sexo,
barrio, comuna, lugar, compañía yactividad realizada en el momento del accidente,
mecanismo y tipo de lesión, lugar anatómico afectado y patologías asociadas.
Resultados: La edad promedio de incidencia en los pacientes fue 8,7 años con
mayor frecuencia a los 12 años, el número más significativo de consultas fue en el
sexo masculino (66.9%), cuando se encontraban en compañía de amigos (42.5%). El
lugar de mayor ocurrenciafue la calle (54.3%) y el principal mecanismo de accidente
fue la caída (64.3%), la fractura fue el tipo de lesión principal con un 55.4% y el lugar
anatómico mas afectado fue el miembro superior (70.5 %).
Conclusión: Las principales causas de trauma en extremidades son modificables,
evitando así secuelas motoras en los pequeños, además de disminuir el trauma psicológico en los padres e infantesy los gastos hospitalarios.

Abstract
Introduction: Accidents constitute one of the most important problems of public health around the world, because they cause a high mortality and permanent incapacity
rate. Accidents happen generally because of environmental facts, circumstances and
conditions that facilitates them and that, without exception, are preventable.Objective: Determine the most frequent trauma cause in kids extremities.
Materials an methods: six hundred and fifty eight medical records were revised in
rellation to the following variables: sex, age, district, place, company and activity realize
in te accident moment, mechanism and type of the injurie, anatomic place affected
and associated patologies.
Results: The promediate age of patientwas 8.7 years with much more frecuency at
the age of 12. the most significant number of consultations was in male sex (66.9%),
when they were in company of friends (42.5%). The place of the most occurrence was
in the street (54.3%) in the main accident mechanism was the falldrop (64.3%), the
fracture was the type of the main injurie with a 55.4% and the anatomic place more
afected was superiormember (70.5%)
Conclusion: The main trauma causes in the extremities are variable, avoiding motrix
sequels in kids , in addition decreas the psicologic trauma in parents an kinds and the
hospital expenses.
