“TOWER OF LONDON”
The Tower of London, officially the Royal Palace and Fortress of His Majesty, is a historic castle located on the north bank of the River Thames in central London, England. It iswithin the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, separated from the northern boundary of the city by an open space known as Tower Hill. It was founded towards the end of 1066 as part of the Norman conquestof England. The White Tower, which names the whole castle, was built by William the Conqueror in 1078, becoming a symbol of oppression in London by the new ruling elite. Since at least 1100, thecastle was used as a prison, although this was not the primary purpose.
Overall, the Tower is a complex of several buildings set within two concentric rings of defensive walls and a moat, the castle wasexpanded in several phases, especially under the leadership of Richard the Lion heart, Henry III and Edward I in the XII and XIII. The general layout of the late thirteenth century has been maintaineddespite the subsequent activity.

This Tower divides in three yards: Central yard, Interior yard and outside yard.

CENTRAL YARD
The central courtyard encompasses the area south of the WhiteTower, extending what was once the bank of the Thames. Like the other castles, such as Hen Doman (XI century), this central area filled with wooden buildings probably the foundation of the Tower. It isbelieved that about 1170 the royal apartments began to expand beyond the White Tower, invading gardens centrals The rooms were renovated during the decades of 1220 and 1230, paralleling other residencesas Windsor Castle Building Wakefield and Lanthorn towers, located at the corners of the wall of the central area along the river, started on 1220 probably served as private residences for the kingand queen, respectively.
