In the year 52 b.C. the roman consul, Julio César, had conquered the majority of the Gaul’s territories, from the Alps to the actual Belgium and also he had defeated some Germanics incursions andeven conquered some Britain territories, all that in only six years.
The reason for this fasts conquest is that the Gaul was populated by thousands of different tribes which often fought between theirself, besides many tribes was allied with Romans and they didn’t fight against the conquerors.

In this situation Vercingetorix took the control of the arvernos tribe. Vercingetorix was the king ofone city called Gergovia and he understood that they could only defeat to César if the Gallic tribes join their forces. To achieve that he attacked with his few allies the roman city of Avarico andkilled all the people that lived there. After that practically all the Gaul supported to Vercingetorix

Cesar went to Avarico with his troops and took the city again, after that he decided to wait thereinforcements. But Vercingetorix invented a new war tactic: the burned land. The Gallics burned all the villages around Avarico and the Romans, without provision have to return to his country. Cesarleft Avarico and the Gallics pursued him and made little attacks to the Romans. Near to the frontier, knowing that his reinforcements was near, Cesar stopped the withdrawal and the Gallics attacktheir but when the reinforcements arrived the Gallics had to retired to Gergovia.

Gergovia was in a high plain with natural entrances very precipitous and besides it had two walls very well defendant.Very near there was a little mountain also taken by the Gallics.

When the Romans arrived to the city they built a camp and Cesar think how they could take the city, it appeared impregnable. Atnight, Cesar ordered his troops to attack the little mountain.
